About Juvé y Camps CavaJuvé y Camps Cava is a leading producer of sparkling wine in the Spanish Cava region. The company’s origins run all the way back to 1796, though it was in 1921 that the company was founded and its first Cava was marketed. Today, it is a flagship producer for the region and its wines are regularly served at Spanish state banquets and other official events. The Juvé y Camps Cava vineyard spans over 1,000 hectares and its annual production is around three million bottles. This is dwarfed by larger producers such as Freixenet, though it is a considerable production nonetheless. Additionally, Juvé y Camps leads the way in the Gran Reserva Cava category of wines - sparkling Cava that has undergone ageing for a minimum of 30 months. Such extended ageing can impart much of the complexity associated with the best vintage Champagnes, though usually at a considerably lower price.
The wines of Juvé y Camps CavaThough the company produces some still wines, it is the sparkling wines that have really established Juvé y Camps Cava as one to watch. Numerous different grapes are used to produce a diverse portfolio of Cavas that is seriously worth exploring.
- Juvé y Camps Cinta Púrpura Brut is a relatively typical Cava blend comprising Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo. It represents a viable alternative to many brut Champagnes at a seriously favourable price.
- Juvé y Camps Reserva de la Familia 2011 has undergone an average of three years’ ageing in bottle prior to its release. It displays a level of elegance and complexity that is remarkable, with notes of citrus and toasted bread culminating in a long and memorable finish.
- Juvé y Camps Milesimé 2013 is 100% Chardonnay. This vintage Cava is only made in the best vintages, with 2013 being among the very best in recent memory. On the nose the wine has a wonderful explosion of aromas including peach and melon, yeast and toasted bread and floral aromas.
- Gran Juvé y Camps 2012 is a superb Gran Reserva Cava that has undergone a whopping 42 months of bottle ageing. The result is a mature and structured Cava that still has abundant fresh fruit and floral flavours, complemented by the tertiary characteristics that come with such ageing. Enjoy it now or hold it for a few years, this has serious ageing capacity and would give many vintage Champagnes a run for their money!
- Juvé y Camps Blanc de Noirs is a blend of 90% Pinot Noir with a balance of Xarel-lo. The Blanc de Noirs style, a white sparkling wine from red wine grapes, comes from Champagne - and you would be forgiven for thinking that this wine does, too! This is a beautiful Cava with lots of expressive berry fruit character, culminating in a fresh and fruity palate, tingling mouthfeel and persistent finish.
