Bodegas Ramón Bilbao or the passion for a well done job
Ramón Bilbao is one of the oldest wineries in the Rioja. The bodega was officially founded in 1924 by Ramón Bilbao Murga, although he sold wine since 1896, in the small wine village of Haro, which is a reference of the Rioja Alta. Since then, the winery has always been owned by the family. In 1999, this was then bought by the company Diego Zamora, S.A., and they carried out important reforms, in which the installations were modernized. From this time forward, the winery has characterized by the constant innovation of its wines, and offers us a wide selection of fine wines. Currently, it has several production lines: The first and original is the DOC Rioja, where the classic products are made: Ramón Bilbao Crianza (loyal to customers, balanced and fresh, greedy and pleasant), Ramón Bilbao Reserva (ripe and powerful, elegant and charming), Ramón Bilbao Gran Reserva (rich, lengthy, with maturity and heat), Ramón Bilbao Edición Limitada ( unique, exclusive and wealthy), Ramón Bilbao Viñedos de Altura (Villaba de Rioja y Tudelilla in all its glory, showing us on sincere way the terroir, expressive and exclusive, atlantic Tempranillo and mediterranean Garnacha harmonize with this wine), Ramón Bilbao Rosé ( fresh and loyal, fruity and funny, but with authority), Ramón Bilbao Mirto (the experience and modernity, expression of old vines, the heat, the long ageing and the opulence). Also wines under the appellation d'origine Rueda are made; the Monte Blanco (fresh and natural, tropical memories, vegetable and fresh). Recently, they had the opportunity to start a project in Galicia, called Mar de Frades, and with 3 different, very interesting products: Mar de Frades Albariño (fresh atlantic, citrus and pleasant), Mar de Frades Brut Nature (rare and authentic, light and ordinary bubbles, foamy) and Finca Valiñas Albariño (creamy, greasy, atlantic minerality, elegant and enveloping). And finally, in Quintanilla de Onésimo, between Valladolid and Aranda de Duero, they develop in their Bodega Cruz de Alba two fantastic wines under the appellation d'origine Ribera del Duero: Cruz de Alba (modern, fruity, with great balance, but very authentic) and the Finca los Hoyales (from the vineyard to the bottle, maximum earthy and vegetal expression, unique and special). Their products speak for themselves, and thanks to their large experience, the passion and the spirit of the founder Ramón Bilbao is maintained in the heart of Haro.
